Chronic Pain Research Group (NEDoC)
Coordinator: Mariana Arias Avila Vera, Ph.D.
The Chronic Pain Research Group (NEDoC) focuses on studies related to chronic pain, physiotherapeutic assessments and interventions, with special emphasis on issues related to pain throughout the female life cycle—such as dysmenorrhea—or conditions with higher prevalence in women, such as fibromyalgia, which are the group’s main research topics.
NEDoC has partnerships with Prof. Antonio Roberto Zamunér (Universidad Católica del Maule, Chile), Prof. Carolina Climent-Sanz (Universitat Internacional de Catalunya, Spain), and Prof. Lidwine Mokkink (Amsterdam UMC, the Netherlands).
Infrastructure: The laboratory is equipped for the assessment of pain and hyperalgesia in both animal models and humans, with tools such as the Randall-Selitto analgesimeter and the ITO digital pressure algometer. It also includes equipment to evaluate functions potentially impacted by pain, such as the LAFAYETTE hand dynamometer and the Polar heart rate monitor.
Funding: FAPESP, CNPq, and CAPES.
