Isokinetic Dynamometry Laboratory

Lab coordinator: Mariana Arias Avila Vera, Ph.D.

The Isokinetic Dynamometry Laboratory is a multi-user lab used by researchers from several PPGFT/UFSCar labs and other institutions. The lab is equipped with a Biodex System 3 dynamometer, acquired using a FAPESP grant (DI 02/0701028-0; FAPESP funding, Proc. 01/12352-1, 00474/2004, granted to Tania de Fatima Salvini). The Biodex can assess concentric and eccentric isometric and isokinetic torques of the upper and lower limb joints (up to about 500 Nm) with speeds from 2 to 500 °/s. The equipment also allows passive torque recordings and assessment of proprioception tests (e.g., active and passive joint repositioning tests). Biodex can be integrated with an electromyograph and electrogoniometer, allowing a complete analysis of muscle function. The lab also has an evaluation room with cycle ergometer, stretcher.
