Neurosciences and Neurologic Rehabilitation Laboratory

Lab coordinator: Anna Carolyna L. Gianlorenço, Ph.D.

In the lab, studies are mainly conducted on two fronts: (1) basic research, with behavioral studies aiming to understand the mechanisms of plasticity of the central nervous system during motor and non-motor functions (e.g., coordination, balance, learning processes, and memory) and their relationships with emotions; (2) clinical studies focused on the rehabilitation of individuals with neurological disorders (e.g., Parkinson's disease).

The lab has established international collaborations with Patrizio Blandina (University of Firenze) and Maithe Arruda Carvalho (University of Toronto) and national collaborations with the Neurological Physical Therapy Laboratory (LaFiN) coordinated by Professor Thiago Russo, Shoulder Complex Evaluation and Intervention Laboratory coordinated by Professor Paula Camargo, and with the Psychology of Learning Laboratory (LPA) coordinated by Professor Azair Canto de Souza.

Infrastructure: the lab is equipped with a vibrating blade microtome, stereotaxic devices, central microinfusion pumps, behavioral models (elevated cross maze, open field, rotarod, balance beam, and dodge box), computers, and cameras.
