Photobiomodulation Laboratory (Fotobiolab)

Lab coordinator: Cleber Ferraresi, Ph.D.

The Fotobiolab conducts research on “Photobiomodulation applied to rehabilitation, sports and health”. Research projects and randomized clinical trials are focused on the interactions between photobiomodulation (light emitted by lasers and LEDs) and different tissues and biological systems in vitro and in vivo. The lab also conducts randomized clinical trials. There are three lines of research:

Research Line 1: Photobiomodulation applied to sports.
Research Line 2: Photobiomodulation in chronic non-communicable diseases (diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and COPD).
Research Line 3: Photobiomodulation: new technological resources, dosimetry, and therapeutic windows.

Fotobiolab has established international collaboration with prof. Dr. Michael R. Hamblin (Harvard Medical School), and national collaborations with prof. Dr. Nivaldo Parizotto (Federal University of Paraíba-UFPB), prof. Dr. Aparecida Maria Catai (Federal University of São Carlos-UFSCar), prof. Dr. Alessandro Moura Zagatto (UNESP-Bauru).

Infrastructure:
Whole-body photobiomodulation equipment.
Large-area photobiomodulation equipment: “clusters” and “full body cover”.
Irradiation equipment.
Equipment for measuring optical photobiomodulation parameters.
Ladders for training small rodents.
