Women’s Health Laboratory (LAMU)

Lab coordiantors: Patricia Driusso, Ph.D. and Ana Carolina Sartorato Beleza, Ph.D.

The LAMU conducts two broad lines of research: (1) functional assessment of the pelvic muscles and physical therapy for female pelvic floor disorders, in collaboration with national and international researchers. These research projects investigate assessment protocols and physical therapy intervention in female pelvic floor disorders. Studies regarding measurement properties of assessment tools used by physical therapists to assess the pelvic floor musculature and randomized clinical trials have been developed to verify the effectiveness of physical therapy interventions, especially in pregnant women and women with urinary incontinence. Studies assessing the socioeconomic status have also been developed. (2) Assistance to Women's Health across the Life Cycle – seeks to investigate physical therapy assessment and intervention during the female life cycle, emphasizing the pregnancy-puerperal cycle.

Infrastructure: LAMU has 70 m2 and consists of four rooms for data collection and a work room for researchers and students. The lab is equipped with electromyography, manometry, bioimpedance scale, electrotherapy, and GE Healthcare ultrasound. Lab equipment was funded by CAPES, FAPESP, and CNPq.
